We took a bus from CDMX to GTO - Guanajuato City – un lugar muy encantador. It feels like one of Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities. Colourful buildings and houses perched on top of one another, like so many perforated cubes, piled up along the steep slopes of multiple hills, which are also piled on top of one another. Built in layers, over time, rising up the steep slopes, made from thousands of stories – it is clearly a storied and layered place. It's lovely here, and it's been sweet to make ourselves comfortable at a friend's home (thanks Ted :-)
The rain pours big time here in the afternoon and evening, and it's surprisingly green from unusually long and torrential rains. So much rain that the skies turn dark and the view of the landscape becomes opaque. Thunder and lightning, the many-stepped stairs become waterfalls, the tunnels get flooded, the hummingbirds hide, and the dogs stop barking (temporarily)
It's quite wonderful to watch the evening arrive and see the landscape slowly transform into a twinkling nightscape. The dogs continue their discussions and arguments long into the night, accompanied by the crickets. It feels like we are on an enormous rolling wave that is ever so slowly passing through.
As always, thanks for reading and indulging!
